Sikorsky launched its S-92 and S-76D Flight Crew Operating Manuals (FCOMs) on March 7, following peer reviews in 2016. The new manuals help pilots understand the intent of each helicopter’s system operations and are part of an effort led by HeliOffshore to enhance safety and build collaboration across the industry.

The FCOMs are on display at Sikorsky’s booth 8114 as part of the iFly Sikorsky electronic flight bag (EFB).

“Following a thorough and interactive peer review process, we are proud to officially launch these new flight crew manuals into operation,” said Dana Fiatarone, vice president, Sikorsky commercial systems and services. “The FCOM emphasizes the use of aircraft automation and begins to describe techniques for operating our aircraft based on the OEM [original equipment manufacturer] design, development intent and unique systems integration. This knowledge increases pilot effectiveness and overall aircraft safety – a major focus at Sikorsky.”

The S-92 and S-76D helicopter FCOMs and EFB applications complement the current flight manuals and add to the iFly Sikorsky suite of pilot applications on the Apple iPad.

The FCOM provides standardized operation procedures covering a wide range of topics from aircraft pre-flight to aircraft shutdown. The FCOM includes universal crew resource management concepts that emphasize the human and hardware interface; it describes available aircraft alerting systems, and offers techniques for detecting and responding to abnormal flight conditions.

The EFB provides normal operating procedures, emergency procedures, aircraft supplements, and excerpts from the rotorcraft flight manual and select equipment operator’s manuals. The intent of the iFly Sikorsky EFB is to provide operators a one-source tool that makes useful aircraft information readily accessible in the cockpit.

The EFB has a flexible architecture that allows Sikorsky to grow and publish content electronically via Sikorsky360.
