The first of eight Brazilian Navy Super Lynx Mk21B helicopters undergoing a modernization program has today made its inaugural flight to the Leonardo da Vinci plant in Yeovil, in southwest England.
The changes introduced on the Brazilian Lynx will enable the customer to gain greater capacity, better performance and greater operational efficiency.
The Super Lynx Mk21B comes with two new generation CTS800-4N engines, already used on the Super Lynx 300 and AW159 helicopters, which provide a remarkable boost in performance, particularly in warm environments, increasing the payload and efficiency of missions.
The changes include new digital and avionics instrumentation with new tactical and satellite navigation systems; a modern anti-collision system; identification systems; radar alarm receivers and integrated surveillance systems combined with countermeasures and self-protection systems; ability to employ infrared viewers, and a new power takeoff windlass for rescue tasks.
The inaugural flight of the first helicopter under its modernization program further strengthens the longstanding partnership between Leonardo and the Brazilian Navy that has been working on Lynx since 1978.
