When the new Unmanned Technologies & Security (U.T.SEC) 2017 trade fair makes its debut in hall 12 of Exhibition Centre Nuremberg, in Germany on March 2 and 3, 2017, the exhibition will be complemented by a highly diverse conference program. An initial look at the conference topics shows that future applications for unmanned systems or drones will be wide-ranging.
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) or unmanned autonomous systems (UAS) could change many lives in the coming years. Although to begin with, drones have been deployed mainly in military or recreational contexts, the broad spectrum of uses to which these systems can be put to improve security and protect human life is becoming increasingly apparent. This does however raise legal and technical issues about how to protect against unauthorized and potentially dangerous use of drones.
Confirmed presenters for the conference at the beginning of March include Mario Finkenbeiner from Deutsche Bahn Sicherheit GmbH, who will talk about the use of multicopters for security purposes at DB AG; and Dr. Dennis Göbel from Agaplesion Frankfurter Diakonie Kliniken on the potential of drones in medical technology using the example of his own company.
In addition, Christian Janke from the European Aviation Security Center/Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will discuss cyber security in unmanned aviation; and Karsten Schudt from 3W International will explore the benefits of using HF motors in disaster zones.
Dr. Andreas Hausotter will look at the potential uses and limits of autonomous drones for securing critical infrastructures; and the Fraunhofer Institute of Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation will present a project for situation-aware defense against dangers from UAS.
In his presentation “Drones: risks and protecting against them from a legal perspective,” Dr. Ulrich Dieckert will consider legal aspects.
Details of other conference topics will be provided in the coming weeks. The official trade fair and conference partners are UAV DACH (German-speaking association for unmanned aircraft) and VfS (association for security technology).
While U.T.SEC 2017 will focus on the technical options for improving security by unmanned systems, it will also cover protection against undesirable use of drones in the civil, industrial and governmental spheres. The products and services on display range from unmanned systems through communications, data transfer, position sensing, IT, perimeter protection, electronic fencing, optics, optronics and lighting to defense against UAVs.
