NextGen avionics leader FreeFlight Systems has announced that Precision Heli-Support LLC has received supplemental type certificate (STC) approval for installation of the FreeFlight Systems RA-4000/4500 radar altimeter and FTG-410 tone generator audio alert safety system in MD Helicopters MD 369, 500N, and 600N models.
The RA-4000/4500 is a highly dependable, proven radar altimeter system that seamlessly integrates with the MD369, 500N and 600N’s existing avionics, and is part of the lightest weight, lowest cost solution available. The FTG-410 gives pilots valuable audio alerts at pre- selected altitudes and for other aircraft conditions.
This equipment will ensure compliance with the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) radar altimeter mandate, which requires aircraft to be equipped with an approved solution by April 24, 2017.
“The RA-4000/4500 radar altimeter system is a vital safety of life system for helicopter operations,” said Pete Ring, FreeFlight Systems director of sales and marketing. “Our expertise and deep understanding of these operations have allowed us to develop radar altimeter systems that offer customers a solution that provides superior performance and value.”
“We are excited to make the RA-4000/4500 radar altimeter system available to MD Helicopter operators,” said Jerry Guevara, Precision Heli-Support LLC director of operations. “This is our fourth STC within the past year, and ninth overall. Our plans are to continue providing FAA approved solutions to the aviation industry that make sense.”
FreeFlight Systems modern radar altimeters are backed by more than 50 years of experience, and have a proven track record as a reliable solution in the most challenging and critical segments of flight. The Technical Standard Order and European Technical Standard Order-approved systems are extensively deployed worldwide in helicopter fleets, including some of the largest helicopter emergency medical service operations worldwide.
With precision from 2,500 feet to ground level, the RA-4000/4500 offers the crucial situational awareness required when flying over varying terrains at low altitudes in all conditions.
