Canada’s airmen and airwomen operating the CH-146 Griffon will soon have access to modernized training, thanks to major updates to be performed by CAE to the Griffon full-motion flight simulator, located at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown.
The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Member of Parliament for Fredericton, announced that CAE has been awarded a contract worth more than $7.5 million to perform a major visual system replacement and simulator update.

- CAE Inc. will replace the Full-Motion Flight Simulator Visual System and upgrade the simulator to support current and future aircrew training on the CH-146 Griffon Helicopter.
- CAE Inc. of Montreal will develop the upgrades at their facility in Montreal, and then integrate them into the simulator in Gagetown.
- This contract will employ 15 full-time equivalent engineering positions for a two-year period, as well as two full time equivalent manufacturing positions for a one-year period.
- Using simulators for training lowers RCAF operational costs, offers a safe and secure learning environment, and reduces necessary flying hours for training thereby increasing the longevity of the fleet for operational use.
- By 2025, the Royal Canadian Air Force will have a simulation-focused training system which will optimize how RCAF pilots achieve and maintain readiness by taking advantage of advances in both technology and training methods.
- The Griffon fleet serves Canada faithfully by protecting troop convoys during deployed operations, rescuing civilians in the High Arctic, and providing support during natural disasters.
