On Aug. 19, 2018, the Brisbane and Moreton Bay local community is invited to join in the celebrations for World Helicopter Day, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Hangar 32, at Redcliffe Airport in Rothwell, Queensland. Entry is free.

The conference will seek to strengthen harmonization of aviation standards worldwide, as well as improve aviation infrastructure and safety oversight capabilities.

Very few people get to see a helicopter up close or have the opportunity to talk to those who work with them. The open day will be a chance for locals of all walks of life to inspect several different types of helicopters, listen to talks about how helicopters fly and learn more about helicopter careers.

The event is family friendly with activities for children. There will be plenty of opportunities for photos.

In addition to a range of helicopters, on display will be a number of drones and race cars. Food and coffee vans will be in attendance.

Also in attendance will be the Australian Defence Force, Unique Proposals, Queensland Raceways, virtual reality flight simulator, AOPA flight simulator bus, Coast Guard, kids facepainting, careers presentations, book signing and Air Force Cadets.

Helicopter joyflights will be running on the day for those people wishing to make the most of the opportunity and see Redcliffe from the air. Flights start at $75 per person.

The day aims to raise awareness of the contributions that helicopters make to society and celebrate the diverse range of people that design, fly and support them.

Around the world every day there are people relying on helicopters for rescues, disaster relief, transport, firefighting, medical transfers, powerline maintenance, tourism, agriculture and many more roles.

“We are pretty passionate about our helicopters and are looking forward to celebrating the World Day for our industry,” said local flight instructor Mick Cullen. “It is a great reason to open the hangar doors and invite members of the public to get up close to a number of helicopter types that they wouldn’t normally be able to do.”

Over 20 other open days are also planned internationally on the same day in South Africa, the U.K., U.S., Hong Kong and elsewhere around the globe. More details are available at http://worldhelicopterday.com. The hashtag #worldhelicopterday will be used to tie in activity across the globe on different social media platforms.

The Redcliffe open day is being hosted by helicopter operator Aeropower.
