Airexcell sold this 1994 MD Explorer to Vortex Helicorp, Inc. in early 2018.

This MD Explorer, SN11, is famous for its halftime show appearance at Super Bowl XXX in Tempe, Arizona, on Jan. 28, 1996. The Notar-equipped Explorer was granted special approval for the flight into Tempe Stadium to land at the 50-yard line, and pick up performer Diana Ross singing her hit song “Take Me Higher.”

This was the first and likely the only time a helicopter will be allowed to star in the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Vortex Helicorp, Inc. has added the twin engine MD Explorer to its fleet of three MD 500Es. The aircraft was painted a striking red and gold paint scheme.

The MD Explorer is IFR capable. Now it is TCCA certified and ready for work in Canada for its customers in utility, powerline construction, and transport operations.
