Uniflight Global, LLC., an industry leader in Part 135 flight operations, has appointed Darryl Bates to the position of director of maintenance for the company’s flight operations division.

“DJ is a great addition to our West Penn and Rome teams. He brings extensive Part 135 experience in support of our flight operations,” said Mike Topa, chief operating officer at Uniflight.

“Additionally, DJ’s extensive maintenance experience, including OEM training, deepens our Part 145 bench strength. We look forward to working with him.”

As the flight ops director of maintenance, Bates will be responsible for current and forthcoming training and aircraft maintenance.

Bates is an aviation industry professional with over 40 years of experience in helicopter maintenance. Beginning his career with Machinist Mate Jet Engines, he supported the U.S. Navy as a plane captain and inspector. After attending the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics, Bates joined Evergreen Helicopters, Inc. as the maintenance manager and chief inspector.

His experience escalated quickly to the ranks of director of maintenance — a title he has retained throughout his career at Helicopter Systems, Inc., CJ Systems Aviation Group, and Air-Evac Lifeteam. Currently, Bates holds numerous certifications in maintenance and carries his Inspection Authorization from King School of Aeronautics.
