Europe’s leading event for the rotorcraft community, Helitech International, has announced the industry’s foremost operators including Airbus Helicopters, Babcock International Group and Leonardo, will present informative and engaging technical sessions as part of its 2017 conference program. Visitors are invited to attend a dynamic agenda of seminars to learn from industry experts and discover the latest technological innovations for safe, efficient operations.
Improving flight safety for rotorcraft operators
Addressing the priority of flight safety, two sessions will focus on improving the conditions and operational performance of rotorcraft operations. Tackling the issue of night vision safety, Kim Harris, senior business development manager, Aviation Specialities Unlimited, will reveal how night vision goggle (NVG) technologies are an invaluable tool in improving the safety of helicopter operations.
On Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 4 to 4:30 p.m., Harris, who has accumulated more than 3,700 hours of NVG flights, will address the latest developments in night safety procedures and technologies with insights on his experience of past, present and future operations.
Maurizio D’Angelo, head of product support engineering and licenses, Leonardo, will invite attendees to learn about the company’s Heliwise real-time health and usage monitoring systems (HUMS) on Thursday, Oct. 4, from 11:45 to 12:15 p.m. D’Angelo’s session will explore how HUMS can not only improve flight safety, but save operators money and reduce unscheduled maintenance.
The latest technological innovations explained
Demonstrating why the rotorcraft industry is at the forefront of innovation, three technical sessions will run as part of the wider Helitech conference program with Airbus Helicopters, Babcock International Group and Universal Avionics Systems Corporation. These sessions will highlight the new technologies being used to improve the safety and efficiency of rotorcraft operations.
Tomasz Krysinski, SVP research and innovation, Airbus Helicopters will present an in-depth view of the breakthrough technologies impacting customer satisfaction on Tuesday, Oct. 3, from noon to 12:30 p.m., while David Perez Pinar, Babcock International Group will reveal the latest technological innovations in remotely piloted aircraft systems on Thursday, Oct. 5, from 11:15 to 11:45 p.m.
Grady Dees, director of technical sales, Universal Avionics Systems Corporation, will explore how an open architecture approach to cockpit modernization enables existing and future helicopters to be more easily upgraded with new technological innovations — without the need for expensive redesigns. The session will educate visitors on the challenges and opportunities of the open architecture approach and how it provides operators with the freedom to choose components that best meet their specific needs. The session will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 2:30 to 3 p.m.
Driving operational efficiency and improving performance
While new technologies will inform and excite, attendees can also discover how to drive operational efficiency and performance with novel uses of existing technologies. Laurent Delétraz, senior manager of business development for Skyguide will explore the benefits of performance-based navigation (PBN) highlighting the benefits offered in terms of accuracy, integrity, availability, continuity and functionality on Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 2 to 2:30 p.m.
Scott Richardson, vice president, service, CarteNav Solutions, will take to the stage to explore what happens once a helicopter operation is complete. CarteNav’s software processes live video and data from cameras and other sensors then geo-references and displays it in real time. On Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 12:30 to 1 p.m., Richardson will explore the steps taken after a successful mission is completed in a session titled, Mission Complete… Now What?
Protecting the future of the rotorcraft industry
Addressing the rotorcraft community on the final day of the show — Thursday, Oct. 5 — from 10:30 to 11 a.m., Matt Zuccaro, president and CEO, Helicopter Association International, will focus on the current challenges facing the operating community. Zuccaro will reveal the importance of collaborations to mitigate the concerns of the rotorcraft community, as well as demonstrating why legislative lobby efforts, heliport protection and development initiatives are essential to protect the future of the industry.
