Reminder regarding inspection of 3rd Stage Turbine Wheels

M International Press Release | February 22, 2018

Estimated reading time 2 minutes, 35 seconds.

M International’s subsidiary companies Keystone Turbine Services, LLC (KTS) and Airborne Engines Limited (AEL) would like to remind operators of the Rolls-Royce M250-C47B gas turbine engines of the approaching compliance date for Commercial Engine Bulletin CEB-A-72-6078 (Engine – Turbine Assembly – Inspection of 3rd Stage Turbine Wheels part number 6898663).

“I encourage you to contact us to arrange inspection of your turbine wheel if it has not been previously inspected,” stated Chuck Hurdleston, vice president of sales and marketing. “While the turbine rotor does not have to be disassembled, the PT and GP sections must be separated to allow access to the aft side of the 3rd stage wheel to inspect specific wheel slot locations, and the earliest deadline for this inspection is rapidly approaching (June 1, 2018).”

Specifically, regarding the C47B engine, this compliance must be accomplished per the table (below) or whenever the turbine module is sent to a Rolls-Royce authorized facility for any reason, whichever occurs first:

For #3 Turbine Wheels which have accumulated the below hours as of June 1, 2018:

  • 800 to 2,000 hours — comply no later than June 1, 2018
  • 2,000 to 3,200 hours — comply no later than Nov. 1, 2018
  • 3,200 hours or more — comply no later than April 1, 2019
  • 0 to 800 hours — comply no later than June 1, 2019

With over 41 years of experience, KTS is Rolls-Royce’s second largest certificated authorized maintenance, repair and overhaul center (AMROC) for all M250 Series engines, modules, accessories and components located in Coatesville, Pennsylvania.

In addition, KTS is an FAA and EASA certified Part 145 repair station, and a Honeywell authorized warranty and repair station (AWARS) for overhaul, repair and testing of Rolls-Royce M250, Honeywell LTS-101 and Pratt & Whitney PT6A and PT6T Fuel Controls, Power Turbine Governors and related accessories.

KTS expanded its state-of-the-art, 40,000-square-foot MRO facility with the addition of a second OEM-correlated, all-digital engine test cell.

Incorporated in 1991 in Delta, British Colombia, AEL has over 27 years of experience specializing in the MRO and testing of the Honeywell T53 series and Rolls-Royce M250 series of gas turbine engines.

AEL is a Honeywell authorized service center as well as Rolls-Royce M250 authorized MRO center (AMROC) with Transport Canada-approved repair and overhaul facility. It is also a member of the Joint Aviation Authority JAR 145 repair organization and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
