PJ Helicopters (PJH) is now the holder of a Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk Type Certificate that approves the PJH UH-60 fleet for firefighting, heavy-lift, and construction activities. Utility customers on the West Coast are already making use of this newly-available asset on various construction projects and have dubbed it the ‘Utility Hawk’.
On Aug. 13, PJ Helicopters completed a large-scale construction project lifting and setting multiple 6,800 lb powerline transmission structures with the first of its newly type-certified UH-60 Utility Hawks.

Since January of this year, PJ Helicopters has been working tirelessly to acquire a Type Certificate for their new fleet of Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawks and on July 17, the project reached completion. Immediately following TC approval and issuance, the PJH Team went to work preparing the first aircraft for construction projects and future fire-fighting missions.
“This has been a great new challenge for our team, and has certainly brought a lot of excitement to our Heavy Helicopter Division and our customer base. We take pride in adding this airframe to the fleet and being able to service our construction and fire customers with anything from a 206B3 to our new Utility Hawks,” said director of maintenance services, Justin Gunsauls.
