Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd., made several announcements on July 19 during the ALEA Expo 2016 in Savannah, Georgia.

Flight Stream 510 MultiMediaCard

The first announcement was in regards to its expanded Connext portfolio of connectivity solutions with the Flight Stream 510 MultiMediaCard (MMC), enabling wireless aviation database transfer capabilities between the Garmin Pilot app on a mobile device and the GTN 650/750 touchscreen navigators.

The Flight Stream 510 card installs easily into the existing card slot of the GTN and enables Garmin database concierge, the seamless updating of databases throughout the cockpit between GTN touchscreen navigators, as well as G500/G600 glass flight displays.

In addition to database concierge, Flight Stream 510 enables two-way flight plan transfer between the GTN 650/750 and shares traffic, weather, GPS information, back-up attitude information and enables text messaging via compatible mobile devices and avionics.

“Garmin has long been known as the leader in providing innovative solutions that simplify the lives of our customers and we have taken a huge leap forward in avionics connectivity with our patented Flight Stream 510 technology,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin vice president of aviation sales and marketing. “Now tens of thousands of customers with one or more GTN 650/750 touchscreen navigators installed in the cockpit can utilize Flight Stream 510 to enable the awareness, simplicity and convenience offered by a wireless cockpit. What was once a manual, laborious process is now streamlined with Flight Stream as pilots can leave the database and information management to Garmin and devote more time to the things they love most.”

GTN 650/750

Garmin also announced an expanded feature set, an enhanced user interface and additional wireless connectivity solutions for its popular GTN 650/750 touchscreen navigators.

New GTN enhancements include pinch-to-zoom, Telligence voice command and more. Additional Connext capabilities include Flight Stream 510 integration, which supports wireless database concierge between the GTN and the Garmin Pilot app on a mobile device.

Flight plan transfer, as well as traffic, weather, GPS information and more also display on select mobile devices when paired with Flight Stream 510. Pilots can also utilize the Garmin Pilot app on Apple mobile devices to send text messages and initiate phone calls. These new features bring advanced capabilities and even more functionality to new and existing GTN 650/750 touchscreen avionics.

G500/G600 glass flight displays

Next, the company announced an expanded feature set for the G500/G600 glass flight displays. The new GTX 345 all-in-one automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) transponder now interfaces with the G500/G600 to display the benefits of ADS-B in traffic and weather.

Additionally, database synchronization streamlines database updating when two G500/G600 systems are paired together or when a G500/G600 is paired with a GTN 650/750 touchscreen series navigator.

Jeppesen terminal charts

Garmin completed the integration of geo-referenced Jeppesen terminal charts within the Garmin Pilot app on Apple mobile devices. Jeppesen charts can be viewed within Garmin Pilot from the charts page and in split-screen mode alongside the moving map.

The global integration of this new, popular chart option alongside superior flight planning, filing and flight logging capabilities, bring Garmin Pilot customers around the world an all-inclusive, single application solution.

Cost-effective cockpit solutions

Garmin announced a new, cost-effective Garmin Navigation Database, single navigator bundles and all-inclusive OnePak database options for select Garmin avionics and portables. OnePak database packages allow customers to download databases to multiple Garmin avionics and one portable in a single aircraft for one low price.

The Garmin Navigation Database and OnePaks are initially available for North America. These new packages and data services give pilots additional database purchase options, added flexibility and more simplicity associated with database management.
