Flightcell DZMx delivers Iridium PTT capability

Estimated reading time 1 minute, 44 seconds.

Flightcell International Ltd., of Nelson, New Zealand has released Iridium push-to-talk (PTT) functionality for the Flightcell DZMx; the world’s only all-in-one aviation communications system providing Iridium satellite and 3G/4G cellular communications with remote GPS tracking.

Iridium PTT leverages Iridium’s constellation of 66 cross-linked low-earth orbit satellites and extends the push-to-talk “walkie-talkie” model worldwide. DZMx works with Iridium Extreme PTT handsets to provide a secure global service, switching between Iridium PTT and Iridium voice modes with the push of a button.

Both the current Iridium network and Iridium NEXT are supported, as is wider communications between different organizations.

DZMx deployment options include airborne DZMx to any other airborne or ground-based DZMx, or to PTT-enabled Iridium Extreme phones. These capabilities are ideally suited to the military, first responder units and search-and-rescue teams operating over large geographical areas.

“We believe Iridium PTT will be attractive to our core customer base, and we are pleased to offer them this impressive solution,” said Flightcell vice president James Mace. “It further expands the services we offer with our Flightcell DZMx platform.”

Flightcell has achieved significant business success with a wide-range of companies and organizations that include the U.S. State Department, U.S. Air Force, Army and Marine Corps, U.S. and Swedish airborne police forces, Colombian, Chilean, South Korean and Turkish Air Forces, British and Norwegian Search-and-Rescue, Royal Flying Doctor Service (Australia) and factory installations at Lockheed Martin, AgustaWestland, Bell Helicopters, Sikorsky and Airbus Helicopters.

Flightcell will introduce its DZMx Iridium PTT solution at the Airborne Law Enforcement Association Expo in Savannah, Georgia from July 20 to 22.
