Finmeccanica, through its Helicopter Division, announced the winner of the contest, launched in Spring 2015, for the best AW609 TiltRotor VIP interior during an official ceremony held at Heli-Expo 2016 in Louisville, Ky.

The “HELI-X” project by designer Joseph Forakis was awarded in recognition of its all new design, use of materials, lighting, graphics approach and dynamics inspired by the unique dual tilting prop-rotor formula of the aircraft, the use of digital technologies and the ability to meet company’s guidelines and ergonomics requirements.

Launched in Milan last year in cooperation with the Italian design magazine INTERNI, the second edition of the initiative called “Flydeas for the City” follows the previous one focused on the AW169 helicopter and is intended to develop a corporate transport cabin interior for the AW609.

Project “HELI-X” was selected among a range of solutions developed by various designers from various nations for the purpose of creating a new interior leveraging modern material, optimizing available space and enhancing flight experience and comfort.

This initiative is in recognition of the best solution for a dedicate VIP interior for the first commercial tiltrotor in the world, a revolutionary aircraft with orders for nearly 60 units by customers from various nations for several applications.

The AW609 uniquely combines the benefits of both helicopter and airplane in terms of versatility and performance respectively. This initiative highlights Finmeccanica’s desire to innovate in an all new way compared what had been experienced in the past, drawing ideas beyond the usual interior design players in aeronautics and leading fashion design houses.
