The American Helicopter Museum and Education Center (AHMEC) is proud to announce that it will be hosting the Girls in Science and Technology (GIST) program, formerly the Women in Aerospace and Technology program. GIST is a fun and educational hands-on program in which girls engage in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) classes.
GIST is a collaborative effort between AHMEC, the Girls Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania and various industry and educational partners. It allows female college student mentors to share their knowledge and love of STEM with girls in grades three through 12 throughout the Philadelphia region. In turn, the college students are mentored by local leaders in STEM fields. Each grade explores a different STEM topic.
“GIST provides the ingredients for young girls to achieve and excel in STEM and STEM-related fields,” said Paul Kahan, AHMEC’s education program manager. “It not only offers an exciting educational experience, but also the opportunity to make lasting friendships.”
GIST meets Saturdays biweekly beginning Oct. 21, 2017, through early April, 2018. The meetings start at 2 p.m. and finish at 4 p.m. at AHMEC, 1220 American Boulevard, West Chester, Pennsylvania.
AHMEC wishes to recognize and thank GIST’s corporate sponsors: Bell Helicopter, Boeing, Teva Pharmaceuticals and several local companies.
