Airmedic announced on Dec. 11 that it recently finished implementing a new call dispatch system, computer-aided dispatch (CAD), at its emergency call center.
Comparable to the system used by 911 dispatch centers, this software is a complete call management and allocation solution. It has also been completely adapted to the unique environment of airborne medical evacuations — a first in Quebec.
Due to this unique environment, adapting the software required a full year of preparation and programming. Given this context in which Airmedic intervenes based on the proven rapid intervention guidelines — which can make a difference between life and death or important consequences for an individual in distress — this software is seamlessly integrated into emergency operations where every minute counts.
“It is important to know that the role of the nurses who coordinate our emergency center is capital,” said Sophie Larochelle, executive vice-president of Airmedic. “On duty 24/7, they are at the heart of taking immediate and complete care of our members. Coordinating evacuation procedures falls to these teams.
“They take part in locating injured parties, deploying emergency teams, obtaining support for loved ones present while cooperating with emergency services and first responders when necessary.
“Implementing CAD, the most powerful system available, was the indispensable tool that Airmedic needed to make us stand out above the crowd in how we benefit the population,” added Larochelle.
This innovation therefore ensures that Airmedic has an even more finely honed performance in terms of its effectiveness in coordinating and assigning emergency teams from calls taken.
