Atec, Inc., a Texas-based provider of test systems and equipment for turbine engines, announced the award from Rolls-Royce of two Phoenix Series 250 Modular Test Facilities. The test cells will be supplied turnkey to the Rolls-Royce engine center in Indianapolis, Indiana, to test all versions of the Model 250 engine.

“This is an exciting time for us. We have the opportunity to supply a turboshaft test cell for one of the world’s leading engine manufacturers. Plus, we get to launch a new product line Atec’s Phoenix Series Test Facilities. We’ve recently kicked-off the project with a planning meeting at Rolls-Royce’s Indianapolis facility, and we were very pleased with the discussions,” said Paul Fenley, Vice President of Atec.

This project marks the launch of Atec’s Phoenix Series Modular Test Facilities, a containerized test cell enclosure fully equipped with all engine support systems load absorption, fuel, air, oil, fire suppression and Atec’s ADAQ data acquisition and PLC control systems. While both water and air-brake load options are offered, Atec has developed an innovative dynamometer system using an electric regenerative dynamometer. This dynamometer is a cleaner alternative than traditional systems, and it offers full range power absorption without the need of a gearbox, in most applications. The Phoenix Series Modular Test Facility offers the ideal solution for turboshaft and low thrust turbofan engine test requirements providing all the functionality of a traditional engine test cell with the benefits of mobility.

Rolls-Royce is a leading power-systems company in civil and defense aerospace, marine and energy markets. They have one of the broadest turboshaft engine families available in the world, with a power range stretching from 420 shaft horsepower to more than 6,000shp. The Rolls-Royce Model 250 family of light turboshaft and turboprop engines has recently logged its 170 millionth flight hour, and continues to secure new applications.

Atec, Inc., is a 50-year-old engineering and manufacturing services company that specializes in turnkey system solutions for aerospace and energy clients worldwide. Atec is a recognized leader in military and commercial engine test facility upgrades and modifications for all engine types: turboshaft, turboprop and turbofan.
