New Mexico aviation history has been made again at Vertical Limit Aviation.
Isaac Wilson was already the first in New Mexico history to solo a helicopter at 16 years old.
On Nov. 24, his 17th birthday, Wilson became the youngest helicopter pilot to get a private pilot certificate in the State of New Mexico with the help of AOPA’s flight training scholarship.
Wilson’s story at such a young age is rare, but it is even more unique because he did both a Private Pilot and Instrument Rating check ride in one day.

The task of doing two Federal Aviation check rides in one day is extremely difficult and extremely rare – unheard of for a 17 year-old.
Wilson’s day began at 8 a.m. and ended at 8 p.m.  He simply said: “I am glad I am done.”
As exhausted as he appeared, the reality of his accomplishments will set him for a bright future in the rotorcraft industry.
Vertical Limit Aviation is New Mexico’s only helicopter training academy based out of Albuquerque and has walked and coached Isaac through his journey of becoming a pilot since his first flight when he was 14 years old.
“Isaac will be very good, and has the world is in front of him,” said Doug Christian, president of Vertical Limit Aviation.
