STAR Flight crew member loses life during rescue

On April 27, STAR Flight was conducting a rescue of a woman who had fallen in the Barton Creek Greenbelt near the 2600 block of Barton Hills Drive around 8:25 p.m.
At approximately 9:50 p.m., STAR Flight, flying in an EC145 helicopter, located the woman and was hoisting her into the aircraft when STAR Flight Flight Nurse Kristin McLain, 46, fell from the helicopter’s hoist. Flight Nurse McLain died at the scene.
The rescued patient was transported to University Medical Center-Brackenridge with non-life threatening injuries.
