Emergency support organization Specialist Aviation Services (SAS) is busy preparing to put the first AgustaWestland AW169 air ambulance into service for the new year to complement its European MD 902 Explorer fleet.
The company is anticipating delivery of the first of several AW169s within the next couple of months. This will be placed in service in the U.K. with Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance.
SAS is currently finalising its STC for a modular medical interior which can be adapted for its different customers.
According to SAS managing director, Henk Schaeken, “We have now allocated all six of our first batch of AW169s. These are all for air ambulance customers and demonstrates the appeal of some of the aircraft’s unique features to this market such as its large cabin and APU mode.
We anticipate putting this first batch into service in relatively quick succession and so we needed a medical fit which can be adapted between customers without any fundamental redesign.”
The company already announced its selection by AgustaWestland as an AW169 service centre earlier this year and following their recent training in Milan, several SAS engineers and pilots are ready to support the first aircraft’s entry into service.
SAS hopes to be in a position to announce more new AW169 contracts at the show.
