Russian Helicopters will hold Russian Helicopters Day on 28 August during the MAKS 2013 International Aviation & Space Salon. This year the traditional showcase organized by the сompany and its partners features a packed program highlighting the importance of helicopter construction to Russia and promoting the industry’s latest achievements to experts and visitors to MAKS.
Russian Helicopters unites all of the country’s helicopter-industry assets, including the Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant and Kamov Design Bureau, construction facilities in Kazan, Ulan-Ude, Rostov-on-Don, Bashkortostan and Primorye, and component manufacturing plants and service companies.
Since the holding was established in 2007, Russia’s helicopter industry has continued to grow. In 2012 deliveries rose by 10.7% to 290 helicopters, from 262 machines in 2011. As of August 2013 Russian Helicopters had a firm backlog of 870 orders with a total value of more than RUB 388 billion. Russian Helicopters’ profit to IFRS increased by 34.3% in 2012 to RUB 9.4 billion.
This success has also been reflected in the international arena. The authoritative industry publication Defense News ranked Russian Helicopters 24th overall in its 2012 rating of the global leading 100 defence companies, up from 39th the previous year, noting the Company’s rapid growth. Russian Helicopters is systematically upgrading its production facilities and developing new models that will help strengthen Russia’s position on the global aviation market in the near term. The new models include the upgraded Mi-171A2, the latest addition to the legendary Mi-8/17 series, which enjoys global renown and can fly a large and diverse range of missions. The MI-171A2 builds on the extensive operating history of Mi-8/17 helicopters, combined with the latest technologies and developments in aviation.
Two completely new helicopters are the Ka-62 and Mi-38. The Ka-62 is the first Russian helicopter to be built with extensive international co-operation, with companies from Germany, France, Austria and other countries involved. The Ka-62 is expected to be in demand in Russian Helicopters’ traditional markets of strength. The Company has already received an order for seven machines from Brazilian company Atlas Táxi Aéreo; deliveries are planned to start in 2015. At MAKS 2013, the first prototype of the Ka-62 will be on display.
The Mi-38 is a new-generation multirole helicopter that provides the highest standards of safety and comfort in its class. It has been developed using innovative technologies and the latest developments of Russian helicopter engineering. This helicopter boasts progressive construction and integrated on-board systems. Visitors to MAKS will be able to see the Mi-38 take to the air during the display program, and get up close with the model at the Company’s static display. The Mi-38 is planned to enter serial production in 2015.
In addition to its new models, Russian Helicopters will showcase its extensive range of serially produced commercial and military helicopters both on the ground and in the air. The Company is preparing a spectacular aerial display including the commercial Ka-226T, Ka-32A11BC and Mi-171, the military Mi-26, Mi-17V-5, Mi-8AMTSh and Ansat-U and the Mi-35M, Mi-28N Night Hunter and Ka-52 Alligator strike helicopters. The world-famous Golden Eagles display team will showcase the highest levels of aerial skill in four Mi-28N Night Hunters.
Two thematic programs – “Counter-terrorism” and “Fire-fighting” – will be presented as part of the flight display. The reconnaissance and attack Ka-52 and Mi-35M military transport helicopter will demonstrate co-ordinated and effective efforts to combat contemporary threats as part of the “Counter-terrorism” program; they will be joined by Mi-26 and Mi-8AMTSh, as well as special forces units and two armored vehicles. The “Fire-fighting” program will involve specialist coaxial the Ka-32A11BC helicopter operated by the Russian Emergencies Ministry, the multirole Mi-17V-5, the heavy-lift Mi-26T and fire-fighting specialists from the Russian Federal Forestry Service. Combating fires of all types is a core task for Russian Helicopters as part of its support for the Global Helicopter Firefighting Initiative.
At MAKS 2013 Russian Helicopters will demonstrate the successes of Russia’s helicopter construction industry. This success not only helps supply helicopter operators with the latest machines, but also strengthens Russia’s image as a major force in the global aviation market.
