Oceania Aviation announces pending STC for BO105 rescue hoist

Oceania Aviation is pleased to announce the pending NZCAA supplemental type certificate (STC) for its BO105 Rescue Hoist Conversion and Mount. With the original OEM hoist motor out of production and obsolete, Airborne Systems designed a rescue hoist mount adapter that utilizes the state of the art Breeze Eastern 600-lb Hoist Model HS20200-XX. This is capable of lifting up to 600 lbs and has an effective cable length of 295 feet with a lifting speed of 150 fpm at 600 lbs and 250 fpm at 300 lbs. The conversion consists of a modification to the OEM BO105 hoist arm; the conversion can be easily adapted to the BK117 OEM design winch arms through STC, which encompasses both the Breeze Eastern (HS-20200) unit and the accompanying mount.
The unit’s safety features include: 
• cable foul indicator
• digital cable pay out display
• overload clutch
• electric overload protection
When asked what the motivations for designing the BO105 rescue mount were, Airborne System’s manager, Russell Goulden, replied, “The BO105 is a well established aircraft – although some are being phased out by some operators, the aircraft’s potential is renewed as a simple hoisting platform with the conversion to the HS20200-XX hoist. The truth is there are over 900 BO105s operating worldwide, many of which are involved in industries where significant lifting capability is required. This, paired with the often lethargic response to customer requests to OEM solutions, made the initiative of designing the BO105 rescue hoist not only an intuitive response to market demand, but a robust solution to operators’ ongoing needs in those primary industries.”  
Airborne Systems is the Part 148 Auxiliary Manufacturing division of Oceania Aviation and has a history of over 30 years of hoist conversion programs, and offers a wide range of support for the BO105 including a STC cargo hook system.
