Northwest Regional Aviation’s SAR response featured on PBS show ‘Nova’

Members of Northwest Regional Aviation responded with search-and-rescue operations immediately following the deadliest landslide in U.S. history on March 22, 2014.

Agencies that played a key role in these operations included:

– Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Hoist Equipped Bell UH-1H helicopter
– U.S. Navy Whidbey SAR’s Hoist Equipped Sikorsky HH-60 Seahawk
– Airlift Northwest’s four HEMS Airbus EC-135’s
-Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Hughes 500 helicopter with FLIR/ARS/downlink
-Washington State Patrol’s Cessna 206 with FLIR/ARS/downlink
-King County Sheriff’s Office Air Support Unit’s Bell 407 with FLIR/ARS/downlink
-King County Sheriff’s Office Air Support Unit’s Hoist Equipped Bell UH-1H helicopter

The PBS show “Nova” highlights the science behind this massive landslide and shows much of the technology used during search and rescue operations to include the Churchill Navigation Augmented Reality System (ARS) and the forward-looking infrared (FLIR) thermal imaging camera system.
