Heli-One introduces repair for AgustaWestland AW139 second generation exhaust duct

Heli-One Press Release | October 8, 2015

Estimated reading time 2 minutes, 16 seconds.

Heli-One is the world’s first helicopter maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider certified by the Transport Canada Regulatory Authority to repair AgustaWestland’s AW139 second generation exhaust duct, providing customers with a more affordable option than replacing a damaged duct.
The highly skilled engineers in Heli-One’s Repair Development Program design approved solutions and repairs that reduce operational costs for customers. Before Heli-One’s custom solution there was no certified repair for the AW139 second generation duct. If helicopter operators experienced damage to the duct, the entire duct would need to be replaced.
The repair has been created specifically for part numbers:
3G7810A02131 and 3G7810A02231 – Aft exhaust ejector.
3G7810A00231 and 3G7810A00331 – Forward exhaust duct.
In accordance with Heli-One’s approved engineering orders, the repair process consists of the following:
  • Pre-repair inspection and analysis;
  • Weld and patch repairs of all associated parent metal cracking;
  • Repair and/or replacement of cracked and distorted exhaust duct suspension brackets;
  • Post repair inspection and certification.
“Developing innovative, cost-saving services for common operator needs is one way that we are helping customers to improve their availability and efficiency,” said Anthony DiNota, president, Heli-One.
“We are continuing to invest in capabilities to support the AW139 aircraft as operators serving various industries worldwide adopt this modern medium helicopter.”
The repair has been successfully installed on operational AW139’s for CHC Helicopter. The repair is now available to all customers with an expected turnaround time of just two weeks.
