The LifeFlight Eagle 4th Annual Safety Symposium was held October 16 and 17, in Kansas City, Mo. Safety experts and leaders from air medical programs throughout North America converged at this growing event to engage in improving safety throughout the air medical industry.

Christine M. Zalar, MA, founding partner at Fitch and Associates, Joe Coons, LifeFlight safety coordinator and flight paramedic, and the staff of LifeFlight Eagle put on a great show with an all-star lineup of industry safety experts. The attendees had the opportunity to learn from outstanding faculty, network with peers, and come home with ideas to enhance safety in their own programs.

HAI was very proud to receive acknowledgement that this exceptional program was initiated by a FAASTeam/HAI safety seminar in the region. Stan Rose, HAI director of safety outreach, discussed HAI’s Land and Live precautionary landing safety campaign. Land and Live was born out of a sense of frustration that so many helicopter accidents are preventable. The campaign is based on a simple premise: short of a catastrophic mechanical failure, making a precautionary landing will break most accident chains.
