In an open house ceremony and 20-year anniversary celebration, Boise, Idaho based Aviation Specialties Unlimited Inc., (ASU) held a ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening tour of its new expanded base of operations. More than 200 Industry leaders, elected officials, customers and members of the media from around the world participated in the ceremony.
“A lot has been accomplished in 20 years,” said ASU founder and CEO Mike Atwood. “Countless lives have been saved because of the use of night vision goggles by law enforcement, emergency medical services air ambulances, search and rescue teams and military operation around the world. For 20 years we have been providing the latest technology, training, and service to people all over the world from Boise.”
ASU began its operations in a small 200-square foot office with one employee. Today the new headquarters is 39,000 square feet and the company employs 44 full time people. At any given moment ASU employees can be found throughout the world furthering the mission of safety.
“Today is a great day to celebrate the past accomplishments of ASU along with the future growth opportunities.” said ASU president Jim Winkel. “During the last year we have increased our footprint at our office, we have hired new people, invested in new technology and product development and have expanded our operations into more than 60 countries. We could not be here today if it was not for the many customers that helped pioneer night vision goggle use in their communities. Today we celebrate not only our 20 years in business, but we also celebrate all of those that have been on this journey with us.”
ASU has sold more than 20,000 night vision goggles, performed more than 900 cockpit modifications to aircraft, and trained more than 5,900 pilots and crewmembers. The company now has 25 STCs covering 65 makes and models of aircraft (rotary and fixed wing) around the world including STCs from the Federal Aviation Administration, EASA, Transport Canada, and Brazil.
