Aviation Specialties Unlimited Inc. (ASU) of Idaho, U.S., and U.K.-based operator and support organization Specialist Aviation Services Ltd (SAS) announced that the company has obtained CAA approval for the use of White Phosphor night vision goggles (NVGs) on the MD 902 Explorer.
“This is the first CAA approval that grants the use of White Phosphor NVGs in the United Kingdom,” said ASU President Jim Winkel. “As more U.K. operators continue to experience the quality, clarity and definition of these goggles, we anticipate that demand will continue to increase. Obtaining this first authorization is a big step towards advancing the safety of night operation and making white phosphor goggles more readily available for U.K. flight operations.”

Earlier this month at Helitech International in London, ASU formalized an agreement with SAS to serve U.K.-based customers. ASU now has 36 STCs covering 65 makes and models of aircraft (rotary and fixed wing) around the world including STCs from the Federal Aviation Administration, EASA, Transport Canada, and Brazil.
“Our team at ASU has worked hard throughout the years to continually add STCs in order to give operators of various aircraft the options they need to operate at night,” said ASU Executive Director of Business Development Kip McDermott. “We anticipate this to be the first of many STCs that are obtained globally for the new white phosphor goggles.”
