The Nigerian air force is to formally open a helicopter training school in Enugu next month. The school will train military and civilian pilots and maintenance technicians, and has been created in partnership with firms in the U.S. and Nigeria.
Before the establishment of the new 305 Flying Training School, helicopter pilots were sent overseas for training.
A dozen AgustaWestland AW109E/LUHs on order for the Nigerian air force began arriving in February 2010. The air force currently operates Mil Mi-24Vs, Mi-24Ps and Mi-35 Hinds, as well as AgustaWestland AW-139s and Super Pumas.
