NZ: Whitianga gets helicopter base

A new NZ$600,000 (US$480,000) helicopterbase is to be created on the Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealands North Island,following an increasing number of emergency rescues in the area.

Officials said the base would originallyoperate only during busy holiday periods, but there is an option to turn itinto a year-round service if the volume of work called for it.
