Bob Cameron, Long-Time StandardAero Employee Loses Battle with Cancer
It is with great sadness that StandardAero, a Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) company, announced the loss of Robert Ingo (Bob) Cameron, StandardAero's Director of Regional Operations for Canada and the Northeast U.S., until his retirement in 2002. Mr. Cameron passed away on November 10, 2009 after a five-year battle with cancer.
“I had the outstanding fortune to work with Bob for over 29 years, said Brian Hughes, Director of Sales, Marketing and Business Development for StandardAero. “Not only was Bob an excellent, dedicated businessman who served his craft with passion, he added a dimension of joy in coming to work. Bob always had time for people and could make anyone laugh. He had the uncommon gift of focus, dedication and skill combined with compassion for his team and the best interest of his customers. Bob knew more about the engine than anyone I ever met; he will be sorely missed.”
A 37-year employee with StandardAero, Mr. Cameron joined the company in 1965 and held numerous positions of increasing authority and leadership. Following his retirement in 2002, Mr. Cameron returned to StandardAero in a consulting capacity serving as a Rolls-Royce, Model 250 Engine Trainer. He served in this capacity until his illness earlier this year.
In 2003 the Helicopter Association of Canada (HAC) honored Mr. Cameron with the Carl Agar / Alf Stringer award that is bestowed upon persons having made an outstanding contribution to the Canadian Helicopter Industry.
A man of many talents and passions, Mr. Cameron loved music; playing the guitar and banjo, leading sing-songs and spending time at his beloved Lake of the Woods. Whether it was fishing, hunting, house-boating or just sitting on the porch with family and friends talking and sharing memories Mr. Cameron was most content when “his” lake was in view.
Mr. Cameron's greatest gift was his ability to connect with young and old, people of all walks of life. He was a master storyteller and had an amazing sense of humor that entertained family, friends and co-workers.
A celebration of Mr. Cameron's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Calvary Temple, 400 Hargrave Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Cameron's memory to Cancer Care Manitoba at 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or The Palliative Care Program at St. Boniface Hospital, 409 Tache Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6.
